About the event

The ALLEY CATS, including SCAT CAT, WACKY CAT, MAD CAT, SLICK CAT, and HEP CAT, remark upon the ARISTOCATSas they pass by. DUCHESS and her kittens, BERLIOZ, MARIE, and TOULOUSE, are the wealthiest cats in Paris, and the Artistocats and Alley Cats are equally scornful of the other group (Prologue / The Aristocats). When the Aristocats’ beloved owner, MADAME, announces that she has left them all of her money, EDGAR, the family butler who is extremely allergic to the cats, becomes very jealous. While the Aristocats and ROQUEFORT, the house mouse, practice singing (Scales and Arpeggios), Edgar warms some milk that will make them fall asleep (‘Night, Kittens). Edgar then takes the sleeping Aristocats out into the countryside to abandon them so he can inherit Madame’s fortune himself. In the country, NAPOLEON and a pack of DOGS, including LAFAYETTE, VICHY, and SSOISE, chase Edgar away (Use Your Nose). The Artistocats awaken, scared and lost. An Alley Cat named THOMAS O’MALLEY discovers the Aristocats (O’Malley Enters, Thomas O’Malley Cat), who are surprised by his friendliness. Despite protests from the other Alley Cats, O’Malley agrees to help the Aristocats find their way home to Madame. While on their journey, Napoleon and the dogs find and chase them. When Marie falls into a river, O’Malley dives in to save her, only to be saved himself by a pair of geese, ABIGAIL GABBLE and AMELIA GABBLE (The Gabble Girls). The whole gang waddles back to the city.

In Paris, O’Malley and the Alley Cats show the Aristocats the benefits of their freewheeling life (Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat). O’Malley welcomes the Aristocats to the Alley Cat life, but Duchess reminds him that they have to return home to Madame. She invites O’Malley to come home with them, but he decides to stay in the alley. Just as Edgar begins to revel in his scheme, he is surprised by the arrival of the Artistocats. Edgar traps the cats before Madame sees them and prepares to ship them to Timbuktu (Timbuktu). Roquefort runs off to get help from O’Malley, but has trouble remembering the cat's name (Roquefort to the Rescue, Somebody Is Looking for a Cat). The dogs and geese join the Alley Cats to save the Aristocats (Use Your Nose – Reprise, The Gabble Girls – Reprise) and ship Edgar off instead (The Butler Did It! / Finale). Madame celebrates the return of her precious Aristocats and offers to host all their friends for tea (Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat – Bows).
